I bought this 2011 all-terrain package GMC Sierra new. I was very pleased with the truck overall except for the 5.3 L V8 engine. There was power in the 5.3 L V-8 only when you would give it full throttle. Which then would give you bad gas mileage. The transmission seem to have up-shifted to quickly based on the RPMs of the engine. For instance, if you were coming out of turning a corner the transmission would already be in 3rd gear and therefore made the truck very sluggish and then you would have to give it quite a bit of petal to make it down shift, thus giving you unfavorable gas mileage.
The reason I bought this 5.3 L V-8 instead of the 6.2 was for that great gas mileage. In town, it was 4 to 5 miles per gallon less than what it was rated. I got 13.7 to 14.2. On the highway, if I was lucky I would get 18 miles per gallon.
Towing was not for this truck. Pulling a jet ski was noticeable, any other trailer larger than a jet ski was sluggish.
Other than the engine, the truck was great. The electronics, interior, road noise, durability, four-wheel-drive, doors and pure comfort was excellent.
So I would suggest if you are someone that goes slow and has plenty of time to get to their destination, than the 5.3 L would be perfect. If you’re like me and don’t want to waste any time, get the 6.2.
After 3 years of owning this truck I decided to go back to the Duramax diesel 2015 which I’m very pleased with. So far.
I give this a 3 out of 5[/dt_text_html][dt_image m_bottom=”50″ image=”686″ align=”left” image_style=”default” alpha=”100″ target=”_self” spy=”none” scroll_delay=”300″][/dt_image][/dt_column][/dt_row]
